P C A Skin : Media launch

P C A – Physician Care Alliance

This is the first time for PCA Skin to be in South Africa and they really are making their presence known. The media launch took place in Johannesburg at the Saxon Hotel. Thanks to PCA Skin and Danielle Franco from Bush Telegraph Publicity, myself and a few other members of the media were able to fly out to Johannesburg from Cape Town to attend the launch.

The launch consisted of an informative presentation on the brand as well as their products. Shortly thereafter we were treated to a live demonstration in the center of the room, showing us how the products work.

Here’s a little snippet of the demonstration:

About the brand

PCA Skin was developed in America by an aesthetician and dermatologist in 1990. Their products are grounded in three core pillars; product innovation, excellence in education and unparalleled customer support.

science is beautiful

I love how passionate they are in creating products that deliver outstanding results without any compromises on quality, their promise to deliver safe products, efficacy, ingredients and their zero tolerance for animal testing.

High Tea with a side of lip gloss & nail lacquer?

I attended a media launch with my boss lady, Liezel van der Westhuizen, in May which took place in the form of a high tea. Beauty & Hair products were beautifully laid out in the center of the table where we were all seated. The products were however not laid out in vain, we were able to play around with each product and because of the very interactive atmosphere which was created, we were able to ask questions and really familiarize ourselves with not only each product but also with the brands.

Smith & Cult

Smith and Cult was created by a legend, Dineh Mohajer, who is also responsible for revolutionizing the colour cosmetics industry when she launched Hard Candy in 1995.

“Smith & Cult represents the duality we all inhabit throughout our lives and our individual expressions of beauty, which reflect who we’ve been, are and aspire to become…”

Smith and Cult’s product range covers the following:

  • Nails
  • Eyes
  • Lips

When being introduced to the brand for the first time my first thoughts were that not only was the packaging delightful, but that the product that was visible through the packaging was also so striking, thanks to the bold and vibrant hues of the product itself.

I was absolutely obsessed with all the unique and quirky names of each shade in their nail lacquer colour range!

Here’s a list of some of the shades:

  • Bitter Buddhist
  • Stockholm Syndrome
  • Kundalini Hustle
  • Psycho Candy
  • Doe my dear
  • Pillow Pie

Smith and Cult’s nail range for me was definitely what stood out.

“Smith & Cult’s Nailed Lacquer consistently delivers both flawlessly smooth coverage and brilliant shine. While custom tailored to provide high performance, the exclusive 8-Free formula is formulated without Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Xylene, Ethyl Tosylamide or Triphenyl Phosphate…”

Oribe

Oribe Hair Care was founded by renowned editorial and celebrity hairstylist Oribe along-side Daniel Kaner and Tev Finger. They believe that healthy hair is the underpinning for sexy, glamorous styling. I completely agree with them! One’s hair is one’s shining glory and I believe that if your hair looks and feels great, you feel great!

“Oribe Hair Care’s award-winning packaging was designed to make the experience of using the products as beautiful as the formulas themselves. Every detail was carefully crafted and nuanced, from the shape of each bottle to the eco-friendly boxes sourced from well-managed forests and printed with vegetable inks. The architectural facets and striking jewel tones perfectly blend old-world heritage with modern elegance…”

Overall, I am really excited about these products and it’s success in South Africa. I am loving my new lip gloss by Smith and Cult and hope to add more of these exciting products to my private stash really soon!

#ShimmyHighGnT

High Tea? No no no, I’m more interested in Shimmy’s ‘High GnT’!

Today I styled Liezel in this Gorgeous blue and white pin stripe shirt dress with an off the shoulder detail and buttoned up features on sleeve and side seam. I got this quirky yet extremely chic creation from The Bromwell, which I do suggest you check out if you’re looking for timeless pieces to add to your wardrobe that are both classic and bold. I finished off this look with a pair of white sneakers and a lovely straw hat that I pulled from my closet.

For Liezel’s makeup, I went with chizzled cheekbones, a natural eye with long lush lashes, a bold brow and a dark statement lip. Liezel looked absolutely ravashing (as usual).

Remember to check out ‘Contact’ in the menu bar for more info on how you can book me to do your makeup.

The event itself was spectactular! I loved the overall mood that was created through the decor and the live performances and not to mention the location! Shimmy is such a beautiful venue located by the sea, which alone is already all you could ask for.

The layout of all the treats presented at the focal point of the room was absolutely devine! My eyes were at disbelief. If I had not been wearing my favourite false lashes by Eyelure, I would have probably quite literally had to rub my eyes to make sure I was seeing correctly. Unfortunately I had given up chocolate for Lent so I had to suck it up, deal with it in the best possible way I knew how…. I ate everything else!

What’s a High GnT without some refreshing non-alcoholic gin & tonic and I quote, is crafted with aromatic botanical extracts. It’s an elegant, sugar-free alternative to alcohol! So yummy! I recommend you go check them out for yourself and let me know what you think in the comment box below.

LEXUS SOUTH AFRICAN MENSWEAR WEEK A/W’17 DAY 3

DAY THREE

Social

The social scene was buzzing and everyone showed up dressed to impress. Many came out for this fashion affair and it was so great to see so many familiar faces. I love events like these that bring everyone together and also allows one to meet new people in the same industry and also allows for networking.

Trends

Trends that I picked up on include the idea of men dressed as women; layering of textures and bold statements, whether it be vibrant colours, mixures of prints or oversized pieces.

We saw designers Kim Gush; Alexandra BlancMerwe Mode and Martelle Ludik play on the idea of men dressed as women along with many other designers whose collections were made up of feminine pieces.

I absolutely loved how designers Jenevieve Lyons and Nicholas Coutts played around with their fabric choices and used different textures to create dimension and to create a contrasting effect.

My favourite trend that I picked up on was all the colour I was seeing on the runway! The designers whose collections had colourful and vibrant pieces I found stood out more compared to those who worked with darker shades.

It’s a wrap!

Overall, SAMW A/W’17 was incredible. The designer’s had truly outdone themselves this time around! I could really appreciate their vision and how they had brought it all to life on the runway. I simply cannot wait to see how these looks are translated as we draw close to Autumn/Winter.

Feedback

My only critiques would have to be the seating and ticket arrangements. Because there was no assigned seating, everyone stampeded into the venue to get the best available seats. This included front row! There were moments when I found elite individuals within the industry without a seat which made me personally feel both uncomfortable and embarrassed. During many of the shows I found myself sitting on the floor by the photographers because my front row seat was being occupied by others. I do hope that for SAMW S/S’17, that the event organizers bring back assigned seating and ushers to check tickets and guide guests to their assigned seats to avoid the chaos and to keep everything and everyone in order.
